The Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE) - http://lxde.sourceforge.net/
Available LXDE packages:
gpicview (a simple and fast image viewer for X)
lxappearance (GTK+ theme switcher for LXDE)
lxde-common (a set of default configurations for LXDE)
lxlauncher (Application launcher for Asus Eee pc)
lxmenu-data (desktop menus for LXDE)
lxnm (network manager that plugs into lxpanel)
lxpanel (feature-rich desktop panel for LXDE)
lxrandr (LXDE monitor config tool)
lxsession (LXDE session manager, formerly called 'lxsession-lite')
lxshortcut (an easy way to edit application shortcuts)
lxtask (simple task manager for LXDE)
lxterminal (terminal application)
menu-cache (lightweight replacement of libgnome-menu)
Strongly recommended packages without which LXDE environment will not work
out of the box (both are available in this repository):
openbox (a highly configurable, lighweight window manager)
pcmanfm (fast and lightweight file manager)
Optionally, you can install these packages from my repo as well:
obconf (Openbox configuration tool)
leafpad (Simple GTK+ Text Editor)
In runlevel 3 (console) use the 'xwmconfig' command to select 'xinitrc.lxde'.
In runlevel 4 (XDM/KDM) select 'LXDE' (not OpenBox) as your session type.
I did not build LXDM because that requires PAM, so if you did not install
KDE packages, you have to use XDM or install SLiM.
If you want to create icons on your LXDE desktop, create a directory ~/Desktop
first, in case it did not yet exist, or you will get errors.
If at startup you get the message "GTK+ icon theme is not properly set",
then create a file "~/.gtkrc-2.0" if it does not already exist, and add the
following two lines to it (and make sure you installed the packages
"l/tango-icon-theme" and "x/dejavu-fonts-ttf"):
gtk-font-name = "DejaVu Sans 9"
