Hello there! I'd like to welcome everyone to the Slackware Alpha
development mailing list. This is a closed list, which means that people
are not allowed to subscribe to it. Only people that have talked to me
about wanting to be involved with the port will be added.
You are receiving this message because you have expressed an interest in
porting Slackware to the Alpha platform. A few people might get multiple
copies of this message, because I am sending it out to every address that
I have received mail from. If you do not want to be on this list (or if
you are getting it to several accounts), send a mail to chris@slackware.com
and I will remove the address.
Anyways, this list is for general discussions about anything relating to
the port. You are all allowed to post messages (it's not read-only like
the other Slackware lists). If there are any questions, topics for
discussion, etc. then feel free to talk about them. Messages that are
meant to go out on the list need to be sent to:
slackware-alphadevel@slackware.com
One thing I'd like to start off asking everyone is for specifics about
their machines. I've got a DP264-based machine. It has two 500 mHz 21264
chips, with 4 megs of cache each. There's an Adaptec 2940UW SCSI controller
with a 9.1 gig disk attached, an 8 meg Permedia 2 video card, and half
a gig of ram. Needless to say, I did not buy this machine. It's on
loan from Alpha Processor, Inc.
Once the list gets going a little bit, I'll share the good news as to how
much has been ported and what the next few steps are. But let me say that
I am getting quite close to having the vast majority of the distribution
built and installable.
Once again, welcome to the list! Let's get this port thing knocked out
and go out for steaks! :)
