[slackware-alphadevel] now available for your sync'ing pleasure

There's still no word yet on the bootable CD problems. But I've waited
long enough to get this stuff to everyone. So here's the announcement.
I've placed everything up on the rsync server (topsecret.osd.bsdi.com)
for your syncing pleasure. Here's how it works:

- Make a directory on a local computer. For this example, we'll call it
  /slackware-current.
- cd into that directory.
- Issue the following unweildy command:

   rsync --rsh=ssh --progress -lprtvvz \
         rsync://alphadevel@topsecret.osd.bsdi.com/slackware-alpha .

- The password is:

[ removed since this is now being archived on the website. mail me in
     private if you've forgotten the password -- Chris (Dec 6, 2000) ]

- It'll start to sync stuff over to your local machine. This will take
A LONG TIME the first time you do it. Hey, it's almost a complete
  Slackware source and packages tree.

- Once it's done syncing, you now have to figure out how to get it onto
your Alpha. Currently, it's best to have an existing OS, a free
partition, and a network connection. Mount your free partition, install
the package tools onto your existing OS, and mount the Slackware stuff
  from another machine. Install manually.

Read the INSTALL file for more detailed directions. It's hairy, but
that's the price for such bleeding edge-ness :)

Now here's some more stuff you might want to know: Expect to see several
syncs to topsecret *per day* Once I start working on this stuff, I do
a lot at a time. Then it's back on the shelf for a few days. I'd
recommend scripting that rsync, unless you really like typing.

I DO NOT want to see this posted on slashdot or similar sites. If it does
get out, I'll end up wasting my time answering email instead of working on
Alpha stuff. Also, DO NOT mirror this for general ftp use. If I wanted
everyone to get access, I would put this up publically. There's a reason
it's on a private server with a password. Really, please don't do this.
I'll kick you if I have to and I don't want to do that. Play nice!

This stuff runs on my loaner dual 21264 and Patrick's 21164. I must be
doing something right :) The kernel I've built also works on both
machines. Also, it does work with a milo system, provided that you've got
milo set up first. I don't know how to do that.

There are bugs. Read the BUGS file to see what I've got so far.

If you want to work on the packages yourself, you're going to need
protopkg:

   ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/unsupported/protopkg

Good luck to all, and please let me know what your experiences are with
this. Your bug reports can make this better!
