Hi Chris (and everyone else on the list),
I'm just going through the installation of Alpha-Slack on my AlphaServer
400 4/233, and I noticed one small problem with the INSTALL document that
is provided. It says ”Just explode that
package and copy installpkg and removepkg over to /sbin” and then tells
you to run ”ROOT=/dest installpkg *.tgz”. This does not work as
installpkg will be looking for the /var/log/setup/tmp directory which
does not exist (at least not on the version of Debian that I'm using for
installation purposes).
The fix is simple, just create the directory on your Slackware partition
and then edit /sbin/installpkg and change the line
TMP=/var/log/setup/tmp
to read
TMP=/dest/var/log/setup/tmp
assuming your Slack partition is mounted as /dest
I'll let you all know how things work out once I finish the install
(looking good so far) :-)
