Ok, now I feel stupid ;-) I'd been doing a find through the entire rsync
tree for files named '.config' and checked the content of every even
remotely likely .tgz file in source/
The ONE place I had not looked was the kernels/ directory - stupid :-(

Well, I'll never forget where that file is located in the future ;-)
