Ok, makes sense. I'll leave it at the 6MB :-)

I now have a quite a few working modules and extra features in the
kernel, and it still boots... This is definately looking good!

I am compiling a list of kernel options that I want to ask you about, I
will finish that tomorrow (unless some stuff in 2.2.18 crashes my box)
and send it to you in full.
