I've just experienced it. Fact is, bash 2.03 works just fine, but
bash 2.04 fail doing the menuconfig. Haven't had the luxury to
look at the patch to see what could cause that, but it should be
worth reporting it to bash maintainers.
I apology, I should have believe you when you were telling it was
failing. haven't seen I wasn't using the latest version...
