Found and fixed. Check out the ALphaLinux FAQ at the following URL for

The specific question that gave me the answer is the "vi handles
keystrokes in batches of four." The solution was to put stty in /bin and
add "stty of '^a'" to /etc/profile. I am now officially pressing my luck
on the rootdisk size issue.
This fixes the following:
- elvis not working on rootdisk
- nfs intall getting all messed up
- root password prompt getting all messed up
- dead terminal once setup is done
It'll get sunc out later tonight/early tomorrow, as I usually do. This is
one major barrier to a public FTP release out of the way. I want to do
that soon...
