Lots of stuff went down this weekend. I finished up the X and XAP series
(the audits). I went on to do GTK and KDE, but realized I needed the
sgmltools from the /contrib directory. So I took a detour and built a
bunch of stuff out of the /contrib directory. So you now have things like
cmatrix, libsafe, and IRC clients. Oh, and Mutt is there too.
BOOTING:
There have been reports about failed network booting attempts. I fired
up my test box and did a network boot on it, only to learn that the
SCSI controller in it is dead. Working on fixing that. I may hook up
the SPARCstation 1 and try it out on there. I think I know what needs
to be done, just need to sit down and test it out.
KERNELS:
The network boot images (the tftp images) use the sun4cdm and sun4u
kernels, respectively. I am going to build custom kernels for those
boot images and include network adapter support. This was originally
left out as I thought I would do a network.dsk thing similar to what
we have on the Intel side. But, if you network boot the machine,
chances are you don't want to deal with floppies. And I really don't
want to mess with them at all.
THE SETUP PROGRAM:
I've run through several test runs of the setup program. Found many
bugs and made a list. It's not quite functional yet, but you can get
a system installed and running if you pick the "verbose" or "newbie"
setup method. I'll work on the bug list this week (but probably after
the network booting thing).
UPDATES:
As always, I'm running through and rebuilding/upgrading packages after
I find bugs. Things to expect this week are KDE 2.0 and Qt 2.2.1. I'm
waiting on some other things to get merged into the Intel -current tree
before moving them over to the SPARC tree.
