I've completed the 2.2.18 upgrade. All kernels and modules are now version
2.2.18. Some other changes:
- Bug fixes in the color.gz and serial.gz root images.
- The sun4cdm and sun4u kernel packages in the A series have been
merged into one kernel package called "vmlinux". Install it and
it will enable the proper kernel for your system.
Ethernet bridge support and 802.2 LLC support have been removed from the
kernels, but the 32-bit kernels are still being compiled with gcc 2.95.2.
I'd like some reports back as to whether or not the bizarre bugs are
still happening with 2.2.18 built with gcc 2.95.2. If so, I'll go and
rebuild the sun4cdm and sun4dm_smp kernels with a different compiler.
Lastly, Phil suggested this line for rc.S:
[ -z "`egrep 'console=tty[a-z]' /proc/cmdline`" ] && fsckopt="${fsckopt} -C"
I was going to add that to have the support for disabling the e2fsck progress
bar if you are using a serial console. But, I need to know if /proc/cmdline
reports all boot parameters, or just ones manually typed in. If a user
doesn't specify the console setting, it will default to using ttya. But if
that doesn't show in /proc/cmdline, we'll need to come up with another test.
