[slackware-alphadevel] download server on the way!

Good news everyone. David (guy doing the Sparc port) and I talked to
Patrick today about the logistics of making our stuff available for
download. And here's what we came up with:

We're getting a 10-20 gig disk and throwing it in a Pentium 90 I've got
laying around the house. We're going to slap -current on it, toss up
our port trees, and drive it on over to the Walnut Creek offices.
(An arduous 10 minute journey). There, it will sit on the shelf and be
connected to the bandwith.

The setup will probably be something like an ftp server and an rsync
server. There will be an account for Alpha testing people with a
password on it so we can maintain some degree of private testing. You
will all be able to download and sync from it. The FTP server will be good
for getting the initial thing, and the rsync server will be good for
keeping your local copy up-to-date, without having to worry about what
needs downloading.

I don't keep a changelog right now, but I will start one the second that
I put this stuff up for download. You can probably expect updates every
day (or even several times a day :) Also, once this goes up for download,
I will probably send out a message about what all needs to be done, what
I would prefer people to work on, what kinds of patches and changes I
will accept, etc.

A few questions:

- Will I need to make boot/root floppy images?
- Would an ISO be helpful? If so, I could crank one off every night or
every other night. Doing so more often than that on my Pentium 90
(48 megs of ram) would be slow.
- For now at least, would everyone be happy if I just made a generic
kernel image, or should I make ones geared towards each type of
  machine?
- What's everyone's preferred installation device and root filesystem
device? CD-ROM, network, hard drive, SCSI, IDE, or what?
