I don't know what to tell you. I was able to use xf86config to set up X
on my development machine and everything turned out alright. In fact,
it's done it correctly every time that I've run it. Maybe there's some
sort of bug in the program itself (not just in my build of it) that's
showing up with the particular set of options or sequence that you are
using.
