I tried building the generic kernel using the config
file from debian that you sent out and I go the funky
error where it's not able to read the kernel file. I'm
going to play with it some more though. I'm fairly
certain at this point that there must be a bug of some
sort with either aboot or the 2.2.17 kernel build. I
have not looked at the 2.2.18 yet, but I do plan on do
that today.

I have X11 running on a 21164 and soon I'll have be
upgrading my hard drives in my other alpha, so I can
also test it out on a 21164A. As of yet, I have not
had any issues with X11.. good old xf86config helps
out a lot. I've been spoiled with commerical Unix's
that only require you tell the X server what
resolution and depth you want.... maybe one day XF86
will be that easy.
I do need to rsync today and upgrade my packages,
which I have not done over the past week. It's been a
crazy week.
I'll let you know how things go, I plan on working on
slackware most of the weekend.
