I've tried to get up to speed regarding the BREAK discussion yesterday
(missed all that due to network outage). Still a bit confused on what
everyone wants regarding that.
I've made this todo list of stuff to take care of before I move the port
to ftp.slackware.com:
Priority: HIGH
- Get the 32-bit kernels and modules built with egcs-1.1.2 and tested.
If that fails, drop back to gcc-2.7.2.3 and hope that works.
- Make sure siloconfig works on as many machines as we can test on.
Most of us don't care about this, but having the installer set up
the booter is pretty much expected by the general public.
- Fix the setup program to write out the proper serial port speed if
the users selects serial console.
Priority: MEDIUM
- Figure out what to do about BREAK on serial consoles.
- Use the new mkisofs SPARC boot switches to make bootable CDs. This
may require a change to how the bootable CD is setup, but it would
mean that (a) I could drop the old mkisofs and (b) users could make
bootable SPARC discs on Intel machines running the same mkisofs.
- Add the PCMCIA support packages to the distribution. Is this even
necessary on the SPARC platform? I know that I can have PCMCIA slots
in the Ultra 5.
- Fix the network supplemental disk support on the SPARC to read and
load modules from the CD rather than a floppy.
- maketag scripts don't parse correctly, need to fix this for menu and
expert mode installs.
- Disable e2fsck progress bar if machine is using a serial console.
Priority: LOW
- Build the XV series.
- Make libtermcap work when built with the new gcc and under glibc-2.2.
- Get strace, metamail, and tcpip2 built under glibc-2.2.
- Add ksh93 package to AP (waiting on port from AT&T Research Labs).
- Clean up all the package descriptions.
- Clean up dialog box formatting in the setup program.
Anyone have any suggestions for stuff that should absolutely be taken care
of before moving the port into public view? I know Charles was having
keyboard map problems. I have no idea what's up with that. I plugged in
a Type5 here and it appears to work fine. I'll see what I can find on the
web.
I'm thinking once the HIGH and MEDIUM stuff are taken care of (or at least
most of the MEDIUM stuff), the port can make it's way over to
ftp.slackware.com.
